  1. New GCP region in South Korea

We're hoping that the day came that we can use GCE in our country. Amazon, Azure already came and doing wonderful things. I moved out from GCE to local hosting company because of poor latency and customer wants.

If Korea zone is created, I'll immediately move to GCE.
    Please do a wonderful job.

Hi folks, we know there is a ton of interest in this ability, and our engineering team is working on enabling it. We don’t have specific schedule updates right now, but I wanted to post an update acknowledging that we definitely agree this is an important ability and we will launch the functionality just as soon as we can!

  4. Please unblock port 25 (allow outbound mail connections)

This is of course already addressed in you documentation, but as far as we're concerned the given answer is inappropriate for us. We do not wish to spam anyone, send mass emails, or abuse the system in any other way. I would expect the service to allow us the chance to prove this and not block such outgoing traffic until any actual offense takes place.
I was very pleased to have started work on your platform, but this single issue is likely to force me to search for a different provider.

    Hello folks,

We are currently testing a new option that may help people send mail without using a third party service. If you are interested in testing this product, please fill out the interest request form here1. Product Management for the feature may reach out to you.

We are also continuing to make improvements to our system to allow for some customers that have an established relationship with us to apply for an exception to be able to send directly on port 25. There are a number of IP reputation issues that have to be worked through for such a use case, so it should not be considered a common solution that will meet everyone’s needs.

We will have more updates on both of these items over time.

  5. Ability to change Cloud API access scopes on launched instances

Being able to change access scopes on an already launched instance should already be possible. It is a little ridiculous to have to disable boot disk deletion, delete the instance, and start a new instance (making sure all the other configuration is the same) just to change access scopes to use a feature you had not considered when first creating the instance. This is something that is very easy to do in AWS using IAM roles/instance profiles.

Hello all, I’m happy to announce that you can now change the service account or access scopes on a stopped VM. This feature is available to all users via a beta command, as documented at https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/access/create-enable-service-accounts-for-instances#changeserviceaccountandscopes

Thanks for your patience while we completed deploying this feature.

Note, we are still planning to add the ability to change scopes on a running VM in a future update (it’s at the very top of our list, we know it is a highly requested feature).

  6. Restoring a VM to snapshot

There is a VM on GCP.
We will take a snapshot of the disk of that VM. And name it as Restore point 1.
Now after 10 days I want to take my system back to Restore point 1.

There is no way of doing that.
Only one way around is to delete this Instance and create new instance with the Snapshot taken. This can lead to following issues- Internal IP address might change. So to resolve this issue, there should be some feature by which one can restore the machine to an older date

We’ve just released a feature to GA which allows you to detach and re-attach boot disks to GCE VMs.

Using this feature, you may now restore a VM from snapshot by:

    1. Stopping the instance – (e.g. gcloud compute instances stop INSTANCE_NAME —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

    2. Detaching the boot disk from the VM in question ($ gcloud compute instances detach-disk INSTANCE_NAME —disk DISK_NAME —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

    2. Creating a disk from the snapshot in question

    3. Attaching the disk from step 2 to the VM as the boot disk ($ gcloud compute instances attach-disk INSTANCE_NAME —disk NEW_DISK_NAME —boot —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

After restore, the VM will keep its IP address and other properties (e.g. tags, labels, etc.).

See more info about the feature in the docs:
    https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/disks/detach-reattach-boot-disk

Down the road, we’re also planning to improve this flow to be “one-click easy.” More updates to come.

  7. Add memory-utilization graph.

On the compute engine page for a particular instance and in general, we should be able to see a memory-utilization graph.

  8. Recover deleted instance

If an instance is deleted, it is deleted permanently. Could you please provide a recover from trash option if possible?

    Thank you.

  9. Debit card should also be accepted as a valid payment method

You should start accepting debit cards as a payment method in India because students cant use gcp and its features since students cant get a credit card in India.

  10. Scheduled GCE VM instance startup and shutdown

I'm using GCE for a small R&D project with limited budget. We would like to be able to start/stop instances automatically on a schedule e.g. to run database instances during office hours but shut them down out of hours to save costs. As far as I can tell, there is no instance scheduler in the current GCE toolset.

  11. Permit custom DHCP options (DNS servers, domain-names)

It would be very helpful if I can specify DHCP options in my networks, minimally the DNS servers. In our use case, we have have a VPN that connects back to our internal network and large amount of infrastructure that does not have external DNS entries. (So the GCP router/DNS server can't see it).

It would be much easier if per-network we can just default these entries instead of fixing /etc/resolv.conf post-dhclient

Similarly, domain-name, search order, NTP would also be useful.

    Hi folks,

Thanks for the continued input on this item. We are taking a further look at this request, but it is not currently scheduled for implementation (we work in priority order, taking feedback from customers, here, and other sources).

  12. Rename Static IP Addresses

Could we have the ability to rename static IP addresses?

For example, you may have reserved a static ip address to use as your production ip for your web server, and names it "Production Web IP". Then later on the use of that server may change, and it is no longer used as your production web server, but you need to keep the same IP address (maybe it is registered with some external service as an allowed origin for some service that you will still be using.

In this case you will end up with a Static IP Address called…

  13. VM online resize of CPU/Memory

KVM supports online resize of CPU/memory, but GCE only supports offline resizing.

Online resizing of number of CPUs and memory would be very helpful to be able to handle (rare or frequently recurring) spikes for relational database workloads, where a couple of minutes of downtime to resize would not be an option.

Autoscaling based on system load would of course be a bonus, but is not initially required, as it is easily to script this in any case.

That a VM would have to be live migrated to scale up is completely acceptable IMO.

  14. Support Custom ISO upload

Please support custom ISO upload so we can use operating systems not offered by Compute Engine. Such as modified/slimmed down Linux distros.

Will also let people customers upload Windows Desktop OS without Google having to figure out complicated licensing with MS.

Thanks for you suggestion. ISO support is something we’re looking at, although importing a disk image for an OS that Google does not publish an image for is already possible, through the process of creating your own image 1. Note that existing ISO images cannot run without first being modified to include the necessary OS drivers to support GCE’s virtual hardware devices (at least disk and networking). It may not be the case that all Linux distributions can support those.

However: we would not implement this for the purpose of allowing customers to violate Microsoft licensing, because we cannot legitimately support scenarios that Microsoft has disallowed. There is currently no available option for anybody to run Microsoft Desktop OSs on any public multi-tenant cloud that we are aware. You have to use dedicated hardware.

  15. New GCP region in South America, Chile.

New GCP region in South America - Chile.

5 reasons why Google should check Chile. (Just check N5, will be enough)

    1) Is the largest country in world, which pretty much goes through almost all South America. Chile stretches over 4,300 km (2,670 mi) from north to south which it is possible to encompass all the South America region (Pacific Ocean).

    2) The economy of Chile is a high-income economy as ranked by the World Bank,[19] and is considered as South America's most stable and prosperous nation.

    3) Chile has a lot of potential for block-chain development. As the government…

I want to use Oracle database in Google Cloud to migrate, but this is not posible.

Other public cloud have this option.

  18. Allow Changing VM network

Allow changing network after VM is created. Currently I have to snapshot then create new VM from snapshot to change network. +1 for allowing multiple network cards.

This item is on our radar for future work, but no date is currently available (there are a number of items in front of it).

Note: Multiple NICs has been available for a while in production (unfortunately this feature request post is quite old and refers to a time when it wasn’t available yet).

  19. Support for MTU > 1460 bytes

If UDP packet's exceed the size of 1460 bytes, they seem to get fragmented by the network and cannot be reassembled accordingly on GCE instance.

Is it planned to increase the MTU or is there a known workaround how reassembly can be done accordingly?

  20. ability to limit spend per project by day/week/month

    Use Case:

Due to unplanned load (slashdot effect etc, zero-day security vulnerability) a GCloud user may exceed the usage they expected, and be hit with an unexpectedly high bill. Other providers enable features such as rate limiting, reducing traffic bandwidth, or even disabling (turning off) the entire service.

Both companies and self-employed developers don’t like surprises. Students and other hobbyists may simply not be able to afford it. It should be possible to limit max spend for an account somehow, and optionally provide some limited guidance in the GCloud UI on what to do (turn it all off, or just…
