  1. New zone in South Korea

We're hoping that the day came that we can use GCE in our country. Amazon, Azure already came and doing wonderful things. I moved out from GCE to local hosting company because of poor latency and customer wants.

If Korea zone is created, I'll immediately move to GCE.
    Please do a wonderful job.

      Hello all,

Based on comments I’m seeing, I want to clarify the topic. This forum is for Google Cloud Platform, ONLY. This suggestion is for opening a GCP service Region in South Korea ONLY. This has no bearing on other Google products or services like Maps, Youtube, GMail, etc. etc.

If you have product feedback about Google products that are not a part of Google Cloud Platform, please post that feedback using the help and support channels for that product (for example, most Google websites and apps have a “Send Feedback” link in their menus).

We have no announced timeline to open a South Korea region at this time, however we are very aware of the strong interest here, and appreciate all your feedback. Hopefully we can announce something on our roadmap at a future date.

      Thanks!

      • Backup schedules

Add the ability to create automatic backup schedules, much like Rackspace and others, for persistent disks. Currently the only way we have to do something like this is to run a cron task from an instance with gcloud commands. Preferably, we'd be able to take snapshots on regular intervals from a simple admin interface instead. Bonus points for adding rolling last n backup capability, like - last three hours, last three days, last three weeks, last three months.

Update per comments. Thanks to everyone who has voted for and are following this item. We hear you that it’s important, and understand your frustration because it “seems like it would be trivial.” We work according to a global set of priorities based on customer feedback (from many sources, including UV). This remains on our backlog, but is steadily moving up. I don’t have an ETA at this time. :/

          • Ability to change Cloud API access scopes on launched instances

Being able to change access scopes on an already launched instance should already be possible. It is a little ridiculous to have to disable boot disk deletion, delete the instance, and start a new instance (making sure all the other configuration is the same) just to change access scopes to use a feature you had not considered when first creating the instance. This is something that is very easy to do in AWS using IAM roles/instance profiles.

Hello all, I’m happy to announce that you can now change the service account or access scopes on a stopped VM. This feature is available to all users via a beta command, as documented at https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/access/create-enable-service-accounts-for-instances#changeserviceaccountandscopes

Thanks for your patience while we completed deploying this feature.

Note, we are still planning to add the ability to change scopes on a running VM in a future update (it’s at the very top of our list, we know it is a highly requested feature).

            • Add NAT routing as a service

Allow instances without an external IP address to access the Internet via NAT, using a single external IP address for all instances.

We often need to connect to client services which are restricted by IP address. We can't whitelist instances' external addresses (even if they had one) because we use managed instance groups and frequently delete and recreate instances when deploying updates, which means the external IP address would change.

We can work around this by provisioning an instance to act as a NAT router, but the difficulty of doing HSRP-style IP failover at GCE means this adds a single…

              • Restoring a VM to snapshot

There is a VM on GCP.
We will take a snapshot of the disk of that VM. And name it as Restore point 1.
Now after 10 days I want to take my system back to Restore point 1.

There is no way of doing that.
Only one way around is to delete this Instance and create new instance with the Snapshot taken. This can lead to following issues- Internal IP address might change. So to resolve this issue, there should be some feature by which one can restore the machine to an older date

                • Add memory-utilization graph.

On the compute engine page for a particular instance and in general, we should be able to see a memory-utilization graph.

                  • Please unblock port 25 (allow outbound mail connections)

This is of course already addressed in you documentation, but as far as we're concerned the given answer is inappropriate for us. We do not wish to spam anyone, send mass emails, or abuse the system in any other way. I would expect the service to allow us the chance to prove this and not block such outgoing traffic until any actual offense takes place.
I was very pleased to have started work on your platform, but this single issue is likely to force me to search for a different provider.

                      Hello all,

We are working on further process enhancements for customers to request the ability to use port 25, so we’re updating the status of this item to “Planned.” Stay tuned for further updates.

Note, we have a separate item here tracking ports 465 and 587, and that item is now in the “Started” phase. It will be available soon.

                    • Scheduled GCE VM instance startup and shutdown

I'm using GCE for a small R&D project with limited budget. We would like to be able to start/stop instances automatically on a schedule e.g. to run database instances during office hours but shut them down out of hours to save costs. As far as I can tell, there is no instance scheduler in the current GCE toolset.

                        • Permit custom DHCP options (DNS servers, domain-names)

It would be very helpful if I can specify DHCP options in my networks, minimally the DNS servers. In our use case, we have have a VPN that connects back to our internal network and large amount of infrastructure that does not have external DNS entries. (So the GCP router/DNS server can't see it).

It would be much easier if per-network we can just default these entries instead of fixing /etc/resolv.conf post-dhclient

Similarly, domain-name, search order, NTP would also be useful.

                          • Rename Static IP Addresses

Could we have the ability to rename static IP addresses?

For example, you may have reserved a static ip address to use as your production ip for your web server, and names it "Production Web IP". Then later on the use of that server may change, and it is no longer used as your production web server, but you need to keep the same IP address (maybe it is registered with some external service as an allowed origin for some service that you will still be using.

In this case you will end up with a Static IP Address called…

                            • Automatically create DNS records for GCE instances

When using ephemeral IPs for GCE instances, it would be desirable to have DNS A records automatically created in a Google Cloud DNS zone as soon as the ephemeral IP is bound to the instance. Instead, a developer must either poll the GCE API's instances.get method until the natIP field is populated, or add a startup script to the instance's image that performs a change request against the Google Cloud DNS API creating or updating the record(s) as needed.

I believe this is a common use case, wanting DNS records that map from (instancename.example.com) to the current IP of instancename…

                              • Add internal IP support to gcloud compute ssh command

We keep our clouds behind VPN access. It would be ideal to be able to use the "gcloud compute ssh" command to remote in to machine by the internal IP addresses.

                                • Provide Cloud NAS

It would be great to have something like AWS EFS (Cloud based Elastic NFS).

You could consider providing the NAS as AFS (Andrew FS) also, which has much better security for multi-tenant situations, support for Linux, Win, OSX and automatic client side caching, which would be very useful in a lot of HPC situations.

Some sort of GCE provided NAS would simplify the deployment of a project I am working on tremendously.

I want to migrate a old system to Google Cloud

I want to use Oracle database in Google Cloud to migrate, but this is not posible.

Other public cloud have this option.

                                    • Let internal load balancing work with VPN

Forwarding rules for internal load balancing can only be accessed from within GCE, not from networks connected via a VPN. This means we have to run a separate compute instance with haproxy to allow connections from outside GCE. As well as wasting money, this adds a single point of failure.

                                      • Recover deleted instance

If an instance is deleted, it is deleted permanently. Could you please provide a recover from trash option if possible?

                                        Thank you.

                                        • Support for MTU > 1460 bytes

If UDP packet's exceed the size of 1460 bytes, they seem to get fragmented by the network and cannot be reassembled accordingly on GCE instance.

Is it planned to increase the MTU or is there a known workaround how reassembly can be done accordingly?
