  1. New GCP region in South America, Chile.

New GCP region in South America - Chile.

5 reasons why Google should check Chile. (Just check N5, will be enough)

    1) Is the largest country in world, which pretty much goes through almost all South America. Chile stretches over 4,300 km (2,670 mi) from north to south which it is possible to encompass all the South America region (Pacific Ocean).

    2) The economy of Chile is a high-income economy as ranked by the World Bank,[19] and is considered as South America's most stable and prosperous nation.

    3) Chile has a lot of potential for block-chain development. As the government…

  2. Upfront payment for Committed Use Discounts

It would be really help if we can make a full 1-year or 3-year upfront payment for the CUD, just like what Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure have.

Our welfare organization has received some donated Google Cloud credits which are expiring very soon, and the ability to make upfront CUD payment would be very helpful and impactful, especially during the current tough times where such credit means a lot to us.

If deducted monthly, we would not be able to fully leverage the credits as they would have already expired.

Would it be possible to help us with this ASAP…

  4. Make it easier to use, its 2020

I just got my first instance fired up on google, first one and last one. Bloody stupid. You get your ip and link to the app and you cant connect cuz unsecure website.
    Your connection is not private!
Stupid google its your VM, manual say something about loging in with ssh seting up fire walls, load balancers and opening ports.
WTF I have instance on azure in 5 minutes working and ready to use. We have 31 instances on azure, came to google to see if maybe we should have couple here. NO,
GOOGLE catch up with times, you are…

  6. Allow changing/setting description of compute instance with gcloud CLI

It seems this might be possible with some REST API that noone knows how to use. But the CLI command gcloud compute instances update that corresponds does not seem to allow you to change or set the description of an existing instance.

Of course changing/setting the name too should be possible, as someone requested in 2015, but I see that you are "working" on that since 2019…

  8. It would be good to associate instances with vpc.

Atleast allow a filter to filter instances based on network (vpc) in that zone. Getting all instances in the zone doesnott solve any purpose as zone is associated with subnet region which is associated with vpc. What is the point in querying instances per zone. That doesnt solve many use cases associated with vpcs etc

  10. APIs are available as individual pieces but none of them are linked together like in AWS or Azure.

All the APIs are available in GCE as individual bits but none of them are linked to each other. For example, using python client, if I query a list of networks available in the project, I can see the subnetworks present under each VPC. So, it would be better to get an object for these subnets instead of URLs that are of no use. If it is an object for subnetworks, it can be further used to see all the VMs available under each subnetwork and also do operations on these instances from the VM object fetched through the Subnet…

  13. An unmanaged instance group doesn't have a setTargetpool() method

For an unmanaged instance group, there is no setTargetpool() method. From the target pool's configuration, it only shows the instances serving it, but doesn't show any information about instance groups serving it. It would be better to add setTargetpool() method to an unmanaged instance group. And it would be nice to show the instance groups, not just instances, in target pool's configuration.

  14. Prevent deleting an instance if it is serving a targetInstance

Should prevent deleting an instance if it is serving a targetInstance.

  16. Snapshots COW or ROW?

Can GCP modify their snapshot documentation in: https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/disks/snapshot-best-practices
To reflect more clearly what happens when a snapshot is taken?

Initiating a copy-on-write snapshot should take under second, even if the full snapshot takes minutes or longer to complete.
In a true point-in-time snapshot, one only has to flush & lock a database, then sync, then initiate the snapshot (takes under a second), then immediately unlock the database instead of waiting minutes for the full snapshot copy to finish.
Bottom line, I want to know if a snapshot is consistent at a single point in time (using COW or similar), and…

  18. This is all much too complicated.

I came here to find an alternative to my local developer's deep learning machine. I want to run several experiments in parallel, to speed up my development. I would like to simply select a virtual machine, enter some basic configuration selections (like how many CPU, which GPU) and get started. But here I have to first read a million pages of documentation to even start to understand your pricing. Total turn off.
