  2. Make images available for Debian Buster

Debian Buster has been officially released but there's no images available for Compute Engine, nor any GCE-specific release notes or documentation on upgrading existing Stretch images. Fix both of those!

  5. Be able to move GKE clusters across Zones

    Currently I'm running into this:

Try a different location, or try again later: Google Compute Engine does not have enough resources available to fulfill request: us-west1-a.

While it's simple to just relocate to us-west2-b, or c, It's not possible to move the master node of my GKE cluster into us-west1-b (thus rendering me unable to upgrade it). I could, as a workaround, add additional zones to my cluster to spin up new nodes but that would 2x or even 3x my costs.

Given that alternatives to GKE, such as kops, support this out of the box it's a little disappointing…

  7. restore disk from snapshot

doesn't make sense - I want "restore disk snaphost" to "disk" and that show me "create snapshot"

it's complete inlogical make new disk from "vm / Additional disks / new disk / snapshot" - if so then "attach disk from exist snapshot" - also it not UX userfriendly do that in that not clear long form

please add button to "restore disk"

  8. sharing snapshots and images across accounts

it's simple - company can have more accounts to care for client - and has one prepared snaphost

I don't see a way how can share it for some another users - like "aws" has already

it's just choose who else can read it - that's all

Q can you add that ?

    Bruno

  9. start instance on request - sleep on low cpu load

it would be great somehow start instance if I requested their resources

for example - I have "plex in cloud" - most of time I don't needed, and time to time I use it - clean time for example 20h of 730h/month

run and stop machine from shell is too much for non tech people - also not userfriendly and not independed from various client devices

so would be great allow machine go to some super hybernation wait for "http req" and then "wake it up" - or there would be some process to boot it up --- and after…

  10. rename project id

if I forgot or mistaken name "project id" I cannot change it - it would be nice to either random generate it or allow rename it - otherwise I have to create new project and "somehow" move all manually to the new project and we all know that "moving" is not easy at all

  12. Rename confusing VM Instance "reset" menu option to "hard restart"

I found "reset" option under the "VM instances" list, right click on an instance menu highly confusing. It would be more intuitive to call it "hard restart".

Some (me and my colleague) then saw the option and initially thought about it as a way to reset a host to the state right after the instance creation. Not as "hard restart"

Thanks for your feedback. “Naming is hard,” as they say. :/ While we’ll definitely take your feedback under consideration, it is not highly likely that we’ll change this unless we get a ton of feedback on it, because it has been this way a long time, and changing the wording at this point would add even more confusion for our users who used to know it the other way. Also note, the word comes from the model that the button on a real machine is called “reset.” What you’re talking about of “reverting” an instance to its clean state would be a different feature akin to “restoring to a snapshot” or re-creating the disk from the Image, essentially.

  14. Add internal IP support to gcloud compute config-ssh

It would be great if it was possible to set configuration so that gcloud compute ssh uses --internal-ip by default (which would also mean a CLI option to disable it, i.e. force to use external, is needed).

Likewise with gcloud compute config-ssh, this one currently doesn't support --internal-ip at all. Supporting it would make using tools like Ansible much easier.

    Many thanks!

  15. Multiple Schedules for Scheduled Snapshots

Allow multiple active scheduled for Scheduled Snapshots

    e.g.

    Hourly with 48 hours retention
    Daily with 30 day retention
    Monthly with 12 month retention

All against the same disk, to allow us to replicate traditional backup strategies.

  16. Automatic Snapshot of any particular disk

Automatic Snapshot of any particular disk. Icould see a button to create automatic snapshot, but it seems it is taking snapshots of all disks in the project. There should be one more column which ask to schedule automatic snapshot of particular disk.

  18. Please let us add more storage...

    Even after the 65536 Limit

I can’t seem to add other drives EVEN after quota increase

Also I usually get lot of errors making big VMs due to availability

    Please please improve

I want at least 100Tb storage as external!

Thanks, as you mention 64TB is the current limit for total attached storage capacity, regardless of how many disks you use. We’re always considering improvements and will update this item if we and an increase to our plans.

  19. Restoring a VM to snapshot

There is a VM on GCP.
We will take a snapshot of the disk of that VM. And name it as Restore point 1.
Now after 10 days I want to take my system back to Restore point 1.

There is no way of doing that.
Only one way around is to delete this Instance and create new instance with the Snapshot taken. This can lead to following issues- Internal IP address might change. So to resolve this issue, there should be some feature by which one can restore the machine to an older date

We’ve just released a feature to GA which allows you to detach and re-attach boot disks to GCE VMs.

Using this feature, you may now restore a VM from snapshot by:

    1. Stopping the instance – (e.g. gcloud compute instances stop INSTANCE_NAME —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

    2. Detaching the boot disk from the VM in question ($ gcloud compute instances detach-disk INSTANCE_NAME —disk DISK_NAME —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

    2. Creating a disk from the snapshot in question

    3. Attaching the disk from step 2 to the VM as the boot disk ($ gcloud compute instances attach-disk INSTANCE_NAME —disk NEW_DISK_NAME —boot —zone INSTANCE_ZONE)

After restore, the VM will keep its IP address and other properties (e.g. tags, labels, etc.).

See more info about the feature in the docs:
    https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/disks/detach-reattach-boot-disk

Down the road, we’re also planning to improve this flow to be “one-click easy.” More updates to come.

  20. Reset & Delete buttons should be moved and colored

    In [VM Instances] etc...
The quick access buttons [Reset] & [Delete] should be moved to the far right on the bar and/or coloured red rather than blue.

Reset is also a confusing name, should be Hard Reset or Image Reset...
