  1. Show health check status of each VM in an instance group

The instance group viewing page in the Google Cloud console should show the health check of the VMs. At the moment, there's no way to view the health status of VMs in an instance group from the console.

It should show the health status on this page:

  2. Set "Delete boot disk when instance is deleted" to "false" by default

Not sure whose idea it was to prefer convenience over permanent data destruction in the defaults for creating a new VM. The default should be safe and forgiving, not deadly.

Thanks, we understand your point of view, and definitely choosing defaults is difficult to do. We will evaluate your suggestion, but please understand that it may be difficult to change, since it could be considered a breaking change to the API (many customers no doubt rely on assumptions of the current behavior at this point).

  3. Add possibility to rename an image

I would like to change an image name.

Thanks for the suggestion. Currently we require that a new image be created using the same source data, which we understand is convoluted. We’re considering improving this in the future, as well as copying/moving.

  4. Auto stop Compute Engine after x time idle

When you're running experiments & you don't know when it will stop : enable an auto stop after it's finished

We are currently studying whether this might be feasible using the Sole Tenant option GCE now offers.

  7. Support for Oracle Database

I want to migrate a old system to Google Cloud

I want to use Oracle database in Google Cloud to migrate, but this is not posible.

Other public cloud have this option.

Thanks, we hear this request from customers often. We hope it can be enabled in the future, and will provide updates here as more information becomes available.

  10. network usage

Would be helpful to allow me to give you an interval and you tell me how much network bandwidth is consumed during that time interval for a vm. My bill is charged by GB, not B/sec.

  12. You need a better way to pull in google ip ranges to allow ssh via the browser through the console

It seems I need to open up my servers to everyone to SSH into on port 22 or I can't SSH from the console. The suggestion is to use SPF records but it's not clear to me how you would do that. The help page linked from the error page after attempting to ssh from the console leads to a page specific to email spf records.

Thanks for the comment, sorry for the delay getting to it.

As far as I understand it, even though it’s a browser based SSH session, the connection is direct to your browser window, not via a Google server, so port 22 would need to be open to your IP address (not ours).

I wasn’t able to find the page you’re referring to about SPF, I agree that doesn’t make a ton of sense, since email is one of the very few things that uses SPF. If you happen to find the link to the page you’re referring to, please post it here as a comment.

Also, if you need help troubleshooting SSH, I would encourage you to hop on the gce-discussion Google Group, where a larger community of users and Google support engineers congregate to discuss/diagnose users’ questions.

  13. Virtual Network SPAN Port/Server

It would be really awesome if you could assign a specific box to intercept all traffic going through a network. We run our internal infrastructure on GCE and really want to deploy a IDS system with network monitoring. Right now there is no way to setup an IDS in GCE like snort that captures all network traffic.

  16. cloning the VM

I need to install 5 - 6 softwares from the standard ubuntu VM and it is difficult for students to configure them. I want a option to clone my vms and allow the students to login, once I installed all required software on one VM and cloned it to 100. Is it possible to give the clone option via UI?

We are considering this. One option would be for you to setup the machine the way you want it, shut it down, take a snapshot of the disk, and make an Image from the snapshot. Students can then create their own VMs using that image, with all configuration done. Or if students have their own project, you can share the image with them via IAM’s new beta imageUser role.

  17. ability to limit spend per project by day/week/month

    Use Case:

Due to unplanned load (slashdot effect etc, zero-day security vulnerability) a GCloud user may exceed the usage they expected, and be hit with an unexpectedly high bill. Other providers enable features such as rate limiting, reducing traffic bandwidth, or even disabling (turning off) the entire service.

Both companies and self-employed developers don’t like surprises. Students and other hobbyists may simply not be able to afford it. It should be possible to limit max spend for an account somehow, and optionally provide some limited guidance in the GCloud UI on what to do (turn it all off, or just…

  18. Support for MTU > 1460 bytes

If UDP packet's exceed the size of 1460 bytes, they seem to get fragmented by the network and cannot be reassembled accordingly on GCE instance.

Is it planned to increase the MTU or is there a known workaround how reassembly can be done accordingly?

  19. Rename Static IP Addresses

Could we have the ability to rename static IP addresses?

For example, you may have reserved a static ip address to use as your production ip for your web server, and names it "Production Web IP". Then later on the use of that server may change, and it is no longer used as your production web server, but you need to keep the same IP address (maybe it is registered with some external service as an allowed origin for some service that you will still be using.

In this case you will end up with a Static IP Address called…
