  1. Include Cloud DLP API in the list of APIS to whitelist under "Identity and API access".

Identity and API access whitelisting should include Cloud DLP API, but it isn't there. The only way to use it is to enable all apis.

  3. Logs/diagnostics for HTTP Health checks

There seems currently no way to know whether an HTTP health check is correctly configured, whether the health check requests are being issued, or if they are and the responses are failing, or what the error responses are.

For example, in my case, I forgot to add the firewall rule that is needed to allow health check requests to reach the VM. And trying to debug the app, or http health check config is futile. You have to recognize requests aren't coming through, then read the docs carefully to know about the firewall rules.

    Instead I'd expect a more useful…

  5. region api needs to include the location information

I would like to have information about the location of a region included in the compute#region kind.

I would like to be able to use the region/list api (https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/reference/rest/v1/regions/list ) to query for regions that are located in a specific country.

But since the location information is not available this is not possible.

Only alternative at this moment is to create this api myself and maintain the information manually based on the https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/regions-zones/ page that includes the location in the "Available regions & zones" table.

Thanks, this is good idea always, though very non-specific. We’d certainly love to make improvements that you see, so if there are specific things you notice that you feel are complex or duplicative, please do post more detailed suggestions here, either as comments on this entry or as new idea/issues and we’ll be sure to take your feedback to heart.

  9. Allow user to specify dockerhub build as boot disk when creating an instance.

In the Compute Engine "Create an Instance" page, allow the user to specify a dockerhub build as the boot disk.

  10. Snapshot Compression

I have concluded that snapshots are automatically compressed, and this is clearly a great feature!

The only thing is that I can't find any mention of this in any documentation, or anywhere after googling quite extensively.

It would make sense to mention it briefly here: https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/disks/create-snapshots

That could avoid future uncertainty about whether the snapshot functionality is working as it should or not.

  11. Be more verbose regarding quotas, and why are they so small?

Our organization (Magine TV) started using GCP for stress testing purposes. We would like to run something like 50 to 100 instances of servers, which would bombard our backend. Because of the quotas, GCP doesn't seem to fit this use case. Your platform should tell clearly what the quotas are, and why they are set as they are, and maybe even point to right direction if it is possible to increase them.

Thanks for your suggestion. Could you please edit your item or post a comment to add more details on where you’re looking for this time format change? I’m guessing you mean somewhere in the Console, but not sure what you’re most interested in. Thx!

  13. Auto applying GCP sizing recommendations for Compute instances based on a label or metadata value.

Auto applying GCP sizing recommendations for Compute instances based on a label or metadata value. For ex: we can either use a label or metadata value like "auto-apply-recommendations" and set the value to True or False and based on this, Google should auto-apply the sizing recommendation.

  14. Show the instance template in use per instance on the instance group page.

On the instance group page in the cloud console, it would be great to have the instance template as a "column" option in the instance list.

  16. Firewall rules - central list(s) of addresses

While GCE obviously does have filtering based on source addresses, it doesn’t have the handy “My IP” shortcut which AWS has.

What we’d really like is something which neither AWS nor GCE offers: a central white-list of addresses which can then be used in the rules on any project, such that changing the central list affects the rules in all projects. Multiple central lists would be even nicer.

Thanks for your request. We currently do not offer a cloud region that is physically in Chicago. Our general philosophy on data centers is to choose locations that serve large populations well, but which are also located in places that lead to affordable pricing. As a result, one of our regions in the Midwest that many customers in Chicago leverage is us-central1, which is based in Iowa. Whether or not this works for you will depend on your network connectivity needs, of course.

  18. Add internal IP support to gcloud compute scp command

This functionality is present in the ssh command.

  19. Proposed to open 25 ports for Chinese users

Proposed to open 25 ports, in China, all programs require 25-port support to allow users to properly register the site, you blocked 25 ports, our site can not grow users.

This issue will either be closed (if no further information is available from the requester) or merged into the general SMTP feature request (if it is regarding port # 25, which we don’t generally open for any customers, regardless of geo).
