  1. New GCP region in South Korea

We're hoping that the day came that we can use GCE in our country. Amazon, Azure already came and doing wonderful things. I moved out from GCE to local hosting company because of poor latency and customer wants.

If Korea zone is created, I'll immediately move to GCE.
    Please do a wonderful job.

  2. Send and receive email using TCP SMTP IMAP ports

Our software is also an online email client for all our customers, we cant use Google Cloud engine if we have tcp smtp ports closed!

We need to send email using port 465 and 587

    Hello again everyone,

Following up on Paul Nash’s recent update, we (the entire Compute Engine PM team) are very happy to say that this change is now in production. In other words, Compute Engine customers can now connect to external SMTP servers and services using ports 465 and 587.

We appreciate all of the votes and feedback our community has provided around this issue. If you encounter issues with this functionality, please submit bug reports using our external issue tracker1.

  3. Backup schedules

Add the ability to create automatic backup schedules, much like Rackspace and others, for persistent disks. Currently the only way we have to do something like this is to run a cron task from an instance with gcloud commands. Preferably, we'd be able to take snapshots on regular intervals from a simple admin interface instead. Bonus points for adding rolling last n backup capability, like - last three hours, last three days, last three weeks, last three months.

  4. Add NAT routing as a service

Allow instances without an external IP address to access the Internet via NAT, using a single external IP address for all instances.

We often need to connect to client services which are restricted by IP address. We can't whitelist instances' external addresses (even if they had one) because we use managed instance groups and frequently delete and recreate instances when deploying updates, which means the external IP address would change.

We can work around this by provisioning an instance to act as a NAT router, but the difficulty of doing HSRP-style IP failover at GCE means this adds a single…

  5. Reverse DNS Record for static IP

It would be nice to configure own PTR record for reserved static IP.

Of course, releasing of such IP is not that easy anymore as next user might not like if given IP has weird PTR record of previous user. But short TTL times for PTR records and "ban" a released IP for while (if not doing this already?) will fix this problem.

Hello all, we’re THRILLED to announce that this feature 1 is now Generally Available. Thank you very much to all our users who have asked for this over time, and who’ve given us their patience while we worked on it. To provide feedback or get help with this or any other feature, please visit the gce-discussion Google Group or post on StackOverflow.

  9. Automatically create DNS records for GCE instances

When using ephemeral IPs for GCE instances, it would be desirable to have DNS A records automatically created in a Google Cloud DNS zone as soon as the ephemeral IP is bound to the instance. Instead, a developer must either poll the GCE API's instances.get method until the natIP field is populated, or add a startup script to the instance's image that performs a change request against the Google Cloud DNS API creating or updating the record(s) as needed.

I believe this is a common use case, wanting DNS records that map from (instancename.example.com) to the current IP of instancename…

  11. Add internal IP support to gcloud compute ssh command

We keep our clouds behind VPN access. It would be ideal to be able to use the "gcloud compute ssh" command to remote in to machine by the internal IP addresses.

  12. Provide Cloud NAS

It would be great to have something like AWS EFS (Cloud based Elastic NFS).

You could consider providing the NAS as AFS (Andrew FS) also, which has much better security for multi-tenant situations, support for Linux, Win, OSX and automatic client side caching, which would be very useful in a lot of HPC situations.

Some sort of GCE provided NAS would simplify the deployment of a project I am working on tremendously.

  14. Provide access to VM instance console

There doesn't seem to be a way to directly access the console on a VM instance. If the machine doesn't boot, you are stuck.

  15. CPUs with higher core frequencies

GCE is offering progressively slower core frequencies with each new CPU platform (2.6 GHz base on Sandy Bridge, down to 2.0 base/~2.7 max turbo on Skylake).

AWS EC2 has instances types like Z1d with 4.0 GHz max turbo and C5 with 3.5 GHz max turbo. Azure has Fv2 with 3.7 GHz max turbo.

This is a significant bottleneck for us; our app benchmarks scale almost linearly with core frequency.

  16. Don't require --zone for gcloud compute instances commands

It would be nice not to have to constantly specify the zone of an instance when using the gcloud command. Clearly gcloud already has this information.

  18. Can't create disk in GCE from ansible/gce_pd/libcloud

Right now we can't create a disk using Ansible/libcloud via gcepd module (http://docs.ansible.com/ansible/gcepd_module.html). All was working perfectly until today, when we started getting this error message:

The resource 'projects/cloud-image-release' was not found. A missing project error may be an authentication issue. Please ensure your auth credentials match your project.

This error message is shown after trying to list the available GCE images. We've realized there are other users having exactly the same issue as you can see here: https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/32909

    Our current environment is:

    Ubuntu 14.04
    Python: 2.7.9
    Ansible: 2.0.2.0
    apache-libcloud (0.20.1)
