Provide which image was used to create the VM instance on interface.
Just like AWS does with AMIs on EC2 instance description
Good idea, thanks.

I am using instance templates which specify an image family for their source image. It would be very helpful to be able to see which specific image an instance was launched with when planning to make rolling updates. Currently it doesn't look like that information is captured anywhere (even in the results returned by gcloud).
The closest I can see to this is that the disk's source image is kept around. In my case this is from an ephemeral Packer builder, but I could tweak the naming to pass the metadata along this way. Ideally though it would be great to capture the source image, and show it in the console.
