The use of Oracle Enterprise Linux would be useful
OEL 7.5 would really be useful. CentOS is used but is still not the best of the RHEL family. OEL 7.5 onwards (yes 7.6 is on the way) but majority of everything that I run is on OEL and seems to be a more reliable OS that others that I have personally used in the past
Hi, I’m going to mark this “declined” simply because we have no plans to officially provide a public, supported image for OEL.
As you no doubt know, OEL is very similar to other distros like RH and CentOS, and because of that, it is possible to import an OEL VM to GCP and it should work (we have customers that are using it). I’d recommend trying out our VM migration tools to get started bringing in an image, which you can then create your own base image from.
Since we don’t often provide detailed technical support in this forum (as it’s focused on feature requests), if you have any challenges while trying out this suggestion, I’d encourage you to post question in a support-oriented forum such as our “gce-discussion” Google Group, or StackOverflow. We have additional support experts there that can help you along the way (as well as other users).
