    Hey all – we’re excited to announce the public beta for renaming a VM. You can try it out by running:

    $ gcloud beta compute instances set-name CURRENT_NAME —zone=ZONE —new-name=NEW_NAME

    For this first version, you’ll need to stop the VM before you rename it.

    More details at the docs here: https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/rename-instance

    As always, feedback welcome. We’re working on GA’ing this feature soon, which will include adding support in the Developer Console UI.

    I couldn't get it. I thought the google engineer team consists of genius guys, but wow, it still doesn't support the very basic feature like renaming?? What a disappointment... this is absolutely the design flaw
